Christ My Song - 1274
The Lord is my strength
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)
The Lord is my strength.
"Be strong in the Lord." (Ephesians 6,10)
1. The Lord is my strength,
this lesson at length
I have learned, though so slow to receive it.
Though taught in the word,
I deemed it absurd,
but now do I know and believe it. PDF - Midi
2. How foolish are we!
How little we see,
that the strength we require from above is:
in conflict with sin,
without or within,
the sinner unable to move is.
3. But good is the word,
that comes from the Lord,
that bids us lay hold of his power;
'tis blessed to know,
since strong is the foe,
the Lord is our strength and our tower.
4. This, then, is his word,
"Be strong in the Lord,"
his truth and his promise secure us:
whoever assails,
his word never fails,
and this is enough to assure us.
5. With this as our stay,
we go on our way,
rejoicing in full expectation:
that when he appears,
he'll dry up our tears,
and give us "eternal salvation".
Thomas Kelly, Hymns on various passages of Scripture, ca. 1853, Hymn 720.
