A clearer view of things unseen
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)

A clearer view of things unseen.

"The things which are not seen are eternal."
(2 Corinthians 4,18)

1. A clearer view of things unseen,
  'tis this we need: the want of this
allows the world to come between
  the Lord and us – how sad this is! PDF - Midi

2. How sad it is, that things which have
  so little worth, should valued be:
should steal our hearts, and half enslave
  the freeman whom the Lord makes free.

3. But we are weak.   Then help us, Lord;
  thy strength alone can help the weak,
who, self-condemned and self-abhorred,
  thy mercy crave, thy blessing seek.

4. No strength have we, nor can we have,
  except it comes from thee alone.
Thine arm, O Lord, is strong to save:
  this truth we feel, this truth we own.

5. Nor do we ask or wish to be
  dependant less upon thy power;
'tis sweet to have our strength in thee.
  this keeps us in the trying hour.

6. And this will keep, in time to come.
  till conflict ends, and toil, and strife.
This past, thy people gain their home;
  their portion, everlasting life.

Thomas Kelly, Hymns on various passages of Scripture, ca. 1853, Hymn 741.
