Christ My Song - 1409
Is the Lord among us?
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)
Is the Lord among us?
"Is the Lord among us?" (Exodus 17,7)
1. "Is the Lord among us?"
Happy if he is;
who shall harm or wrong us,
since the pow'r is his?
He who stands between us
and the foes we fear,
able is to screen us,
and is always near. PDF - Midi
2. Were he not "among us"
in the midst of foes,
any one might wrong us,
any one who chose.
Now they may alarm us,
when we see them near;
but they cannot harm us,
since the Lord is here.
3. 'Tis the Lord "among us"
keeps our foes away;
thus they cannot wrong us,
wish it as they may.
Whom the Lord confesses,
who can do them wrong?
Whom he saves and blesses,
who forbid their song?
4. Sing we, then, with gladness
of the Lord our King,
who removes our sadness,
and who bids us sing;
who with blood has bought us,
and pronounced us blessed,
through the sea has brought us,
and will give us rest.
Thomas Kelly, Hymns on various passages of Scripture, ca. 1853, Hymn 416.
