Christ My Song - 1941
Sing, sing his lofty praise
(Thomas Kelly/Johannes Thomas Rüegg)
Sing, sing his lofty praise.
"Praise thy God, O Zion." (Psalm 147,12)
1. Sing, sing his lofty praise,
whom angels cannot raise,
but whom they sing;
Jesus, who reigns above,
object of angels' love,
Jesus, whose grace we prove,
Jesus, our King. PDF - Midi
2. Once upon earth he was,
sin the mysterious cause;
love brought him down:
was ever love like this?
Stronger than death it is;
was ever sight like this?
His be the crown.
3. Jesus the curse sustained,
bitter the cup he drained,
happy for us:
angels were filled with awe,
when their own King they saw
honour his holy law,
honour it thus.
4. Rich is the grace we sing,
poor is the praise we bring,
not as we ought:
but when we see his face,
in yonder glorious place,
then shall we sing his grace,
sing without fault.
5. Sing we e'en here of him,
Jesus our lofty theme,
Jesus we'll sing;
glory and power are his,
his too the kingdom is;
triumph, ye saints, in this,
Jesus is King.
6. Hail our eternal King!
Jesus, whose name we sing,
heaven is thy throne;
heaven, where thine angels are,
where all is bright and fair;
reign thou for ever there,
reign thou alone.
Thomas Kelly, Hymns on various passages of Scripture, ca. 1853, Hymn 189.
